Looking at the history of candlesticks will take us all the way to Japan more than 500 years ago when the Japanese used candlesticks for the purpose of analyzing their rice markets. The technique evolved over time into what the candlestick charts would be in Japan and countless technical traders all over the world. Japan has been successfully utilizing candlestick analysis for 100’s of years, but the beginning of Japanese candlestick charts in the U.S. begins about 25 years ago and became steadily more popular in the U.S. trading community.

The concept behind Japanese candlestick was invented over 300 years ago by a Japanese rice trader named Sokyu Honma. He started by making thorough studies of price movements of stocks and commodities, surrounding rice, which gave him the opportunity to identify traits and patterns from daily trading formations. At first, people were confused and candlesticks were thought of to be very time consuming and difficult to learn. But with the rise of technology, computers and computer programming, the concept of Forex candlestick charts quickly became the talk of the trading industry. The attraction and boom of candlestick signal analysis have to be credited to the Westerner Steve Nison, who actually studied the complex technique on how to read charts from a fellow Japanese broker. Nison took candlestick analysis very seriously and published a book titled “Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques” in 1991.

Today, throughout the Forex trading industry, trading is helping millions of investors and traders at all stages of their Forex journey around the world.
